Preliminary Schedule

  • 9/1 Installation and survey until ~18:00 (actually ended closer to ~21:00 followed by sweep)
  • 9/2 00:00 - 9/2 10:00 -- Straight-track data (10 hours, Tuesday night)
  • 9/2 10:00 - 9/2 20:00 -- Ramp solenoid magnet (8 hours, Wednesday day during RF recovery)
  • 9/2 20:00 - 9/3 14:00 -- Full-field data: tracking mode (18 hours, Wednesday night)
  • 9/3 14:00 - 9/3 20:00 -- Full-field data: TRD mode (4 hours, Thursday afternoon)
  • 9/4 De-installation -- Technical crew de-install in the evening?

Notes:

  • Assumes ~50% beam availability as normal. Schedule could be delayed if beam is down for prolonged period
  • Magnet ramp on Tuesday morning begins at 10 am to coincide with RF recovery

Calibration datasets

Summary page for Summer 2020 TRD/GEM Commissioning lists the relevant run ranges for the datasets collected below

Straight-track data

  • For alignment of the GEM/TRD we need to acquire production samples with the magnetic field off
  • Straight-track sample at the beam-center TRD positions with the full GEM readout for tracking and alignment studies
    • Standard GlueX no-field measurements with 50nA on 10^-4 amorphous radiator (on amorphous ladder)
    • 2 hours: focused FCAL trigger in GEM location (FCAL_TRACK_CENT.conf) to verify TRD/GEM signals (raw mode)
      • Sergey will be available to setup and test GEM/TRD in DAQ with this configuration
    • 8 hours: standard FCAL-BCAL trigger (FCAL_BCAL_PS_m9.conf) for alignment data
      • Start new run every ~2 hours for calibration stability
      • Monitor TRD histograms in RootSpy and typical occupancies (which will be different due to solenoid field being off)

Full-field data: tracking mode

  • With the aligned GEM/TRD collect data for track extrapolation validation and multi-plane tracking directly upstream of DIRC
  • Full solenoid field sample at the beam-center TRD positions with the full GEM readout for tracking and alignment studies
  • Standard GlueX running conditions: diamond 0/90 PARA all using DAQ config hd_all.tsg_DIRC_TRD_HL
    • 2 hours: focused FCAL trigger in GEM location at 150 nA (to verify TRD/GEM signals in raw mode)
      • For focused trigger use CONFIG file FCAL_TRACK_CENT20_m9_TRDm10.conf
    • 8 hours: standard FCAL_BCAL_PS_m9.conf trigger config at 150 nA (low energy TAGH turned on)
      • Four 2-hour long runs with stable beam
    • Turn off low energy TAGH counters using instructions at https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3830977:
      • In TAGH HV GUI click "Save/Restore" -> select "Restore HV parameter setpoint" -> select "TAGH_HV_ProductionSummer2020_350nA.snap" and click restore. You should see that channels > 138 all have 0 V. Be sure to check this prior to increasing current above 150 nA!
    • 4 hours: standard FCAL_BCAL_PS_m9.conf trigger config at 250 nA (low energy TAGH turned off)
      • Two 2-hour long runs with stable beam
    • 4 hours: standard FCAL_BCAL_PS_m9.conf trigger config at 350 nA (low energy TAGH turned off)
      • Two 2-hour long runs with stable beam

Full-field data: TRD mode

  • For pion rejection performance acquire samples with the TRD in "cluster counting" mode with all the GEM packages read out.
  • Operate TRDs with two different gasses using raw mode (Lubomir and Sergey are required for these runs)
    • 4 hours: standard FCAL-BCAL trigger

Required personnel

  • Expert in counting house or on-call for changes in configuration
