Minutes

Attendees: Simon, David, Mark (JLab), Sean (NWU), Christine (Athens), Curtis, Will M. (CMU), Andrei, Tegan, Ahmed, Zisis (Regina)"

  1. Announcements: magnet cooldown in December and repairs will take most of that month. However, during the Collaboration Meeting we should discuss whether we want beam without magnet.
  2. Action Items
    1. Consider developing data structures for the peak value (Mike and Mark): Mark discuss with Mike next week. There is no great hurry on this item.
    2. Provide information to Curtis' document on performance for FCAL (Matt): Matt sent stuff to Curtis as did all detector groups. Curtis is now working on the online and beam line pages. Remove this from the Action list above.
    3. Summarize information on eta peak (Will) [3]: also for Curtis' document, see two plots on link. Exclusive eta production off the proton: 30 MeV width after first pass and with no kinematic fit. Curtis suggested putting it up on the Plots page off the Portal.
    4. Produce plot of z-position resolution (George): nothing to report.
  3. GlueX Collaboration Meeting October 8-10: standard 2 talks for Calorimeters; get them in soon on the agenda and communicate needs to Curtis.
  4. GlueX Performance document: BCAL & FCAL high-level plots GlueX-doc-2775: see Action Item above.
  5. Run preparations
    • Solenoid cooldown and ramp up mid August: see change of plans in Announcements above.
  6. FCAL Update: nobody present from the FCAL group.
  7. BCAL Update
  8. Calorimetry F250 Firmware Discussions: Sasha is leading the process of the new design of the firmware. It would be nice have firmware patch on the bug Mike found, for the next time we run. However, the redesigned firmware should be ready for spring which may mean that we do not need any interim patch. Sasha is talking to Hai who will do most of this work. Testing time is needed too before the spring running.
  9. Reconstruction and Simulation:
    1. Andrei: work on improving calibration is ongoing; some irregularities observed which he will discuss offline with Mark and Elton.
    2. Mark: gain ratio extractions from most recent run over the data had problems (50% of runs were done). The full replay will happen over the coming rate. Results available soon.
    3. Simon: improvement to track matching to Calorimeters. Some showers do not have a symmetric shape. Track matching to individual hits works better than to showers and mostly for the BCAL (we do not understand this yet). The issue is not getting enough good matches to tracks. Order of showers (by energy) should not matter since we have too few matches. Simon's fix is checked in and Ahmed will review these types of weird events previously seen in hdview.
    4. Will M: single ended hits not checked in yet; needs to fix a bug first. Final tests are underway before checking it in before the next BCAL meeting.
    5. Eta reconstruction (Tegan): learning how to use the DReaction and cuts on simulation and next will look at data..
  10. Calibration: nobody was present from the BCAL at the Calibration meeting. How much more data does the BCAL need for a full calibration? Rough factor of 100x suggested by Mark. This discussion will be placed on the Action Item list.
  11. Any other business: none.
