Agenda

Notes from last week

  • Discussed Gas system status, vacuum system, cell and scattering chamber and tasks to be done. The following are the results of the discussion;
    • Procurement of gas system components started. Still need piping and relief valves. $40-50K, some components have arrived
    • Sizing tank based on min liquid volume possible
    • May put valve on tank to purge to vent system. Stack must be 5' above roof. Jim to work with facilities
    • Target to have 1 fill and 1 return line. "kink in return to reduce liquid volume
    • Build production configuration to test system with horizontal target
    • Plan to use 20' x 1.5 inch flex line to allow target to be moved in and out of the detector
    • lakeshore boxes from target group are in. PLC controls ordered and some have arrived. Dave to order remaining controls/cables.
    • Looks like a heat exchanger using LCW/Chilled water most economical for refrig. compressor. Jim working this
    • Jim to get with Chris and James on scattering chamber design (some ideas in work) (<15Psig). Jim has envelope
    • Tim ordered vacuum system pump cube (Pfeifer turbo cube). Still need to order gauging.
    • Chris sent out list of all items needed for monitoring/controlling from PLC system
    • Hall D people to discuss what needs to be shut off in hall when target vacuum goes south
    • Jim to develop H2 vent details
    • Insertion cart can be extended upstream 18-24" to get panel and turbo in lower mag field. Jim to finalize design with target group.
    • One target cell is made, will need to make two more. Joint in cell to be at 12 oclock. Also, make an aluminum base with 2 line design to test.
    • Jim to work with Josh/James on the design of the shield and plumbing
    • Chris working on PLC algorithm and "empty target/fill target" procedure.
    • FMEA needed. Cannot rely on PLC for personnel safety. Use safety pressure switches to turn off/close vacuum valves, power to compressor and heater.
    • Pressurization to failure has been done on individual components. Dave does not believe we need to do the entire system to failure. 2nd DA agreement needed.
    • Heater on return line had little effect on enhancing convection - not needed
    • need heater on supply line to boil off liquid. It took 3 days to boil off neon from cell.
    • If heaters used, need controls
    • Plan on internal review this July
    • Question came up if UPS power is required for any components. Maybe not if relays shut off compressor if power goes out.
    • need to review interlocks on P&I
    • Dave to update SOW
