Minutes

Present: Elliott W, Simon T, Mark I, Bryan M, Graham H, Carl T, Dmitry R, Hovanes E, Dave A, Vardan G, Beni Z, Alex S, David L, Yi Q.

Hall Networking

Elliott and Hovanes are in the middle of discussions with Bryan Hess concerning getting networking going in the hall, counting house, tagger building and trailer. Bryan is getting quotes for the hardware. Bryan says there is no great advantage in delaying purchasing network equipment in the hope it comes down in price, except for 10 GBit hardware. He will propose a flexible system that we can purchase soon that will be easily upgradable to 10 GBit when we need it.

CODA 3 Status

Dave Abbott gave an update on the status of the many sub-projects that comprise CODA 3. Many are ready, some are almost ready, and some need more work (see his slides).

  • Graham said the first usable release should be shortly after Thanksgiving.
  • Initial release will support a single event builder, up to 5 crates and event blocking.
  • EVIO V4 is released in Java, needs to be ported to C++ (by Carl).
  • DAQ group is also working on other projects, but this is the highest priority.

Trigger Configuration

Alex gave an overview of the hardware in the trigger, the kinds of information needed to configure the trigger, and their initial efforts to organize trigger configurations in a database (see his slides). Discussion ensued on the distinction between managing trigger configurations and storing the one used for a particular run in a place suitable for offline access and the role of the CCDB in relation to their trigger database. He proposed that initially triggers will be downloaded into the hardware via autonomous processes (AFECS), but questioned whether this functionality might be folded into the ROC itself. Elliott questioned that, although this was possible, was mixing such different functionality in the same code a good idea.

Other DAQ Tasks

  • Elliott and Carl reported that the disentangler code will be written in a modular way such that parts of it could be run stand-alone in small test systems that involve event blocking.
  • Vardan reported he is almost finished the planning of the "farm manager" and will give a report at the next meeting.
  • Bryan M reported continuing progress on the automated readout list.

Elog

Elliott reported discovery of yet another candidate for the counting house Elog from the SNS.
