Attendees: Axel, Bill, Sasha, Arshak, Olga, Liping, Susan, Igal, S.T.
- We agreed that Bill would give a talk on JEF at the GHP meeting. A draft of an abstract has been circulated.
- Only 1 Crytur crystal remains to be fabricated into an FCAL-2 module
- 48 crystals have been removed from the COMCAL and stripped of wrapping
- Most of the caps for fiber insertion have been removed
- These crystals are to be converted into FCAL-2 modules
- Inner part of the COMCAL will not be used for FCAL-2 due to likely radiation damage
- Grand total FCAL2-modules = 1410
- Mindy from the detector support group will continue wrapping and soldering wires into sockets
- Will install a 5x5 prototype of FCAL2 modules into COMCAL instrumented with new PMT dividers w/ active base
- Chris S. has built 25 new dividers
- Plan to install in hall for beam tests to perform rate measurements, use as TAC, study linearity
- Summer students: ~6 have registered, expect a student from Colin Gleason
- Hoping to get ~25% time from Vlad B. during summer
- RTV for making cookies has arrrived; Bill will take to Olga
- Arshak has been checking light uniformity of 250 micron diameter fibers (alternate approach for LMS, to be compared to plexiglas plate approach)
- Attached bundle to integrating sphere, look at individual fiber light output
- First results do not look very uniform: ~30% variation, with one outlier even worse (see [4])
- Suspect due to polishing of fiber end -- could be improved with different procedure?
- Consider using 500 micron diameter fibers instead? 1 mm fibers demonstrated to work, but are more difficult to bend and contribute more material in front of insert
- Will probably need to have a bundle of fibers with enough spares, pick and choose to get the desired uniformity
