General Information

This document describes the run plan for the Hall D Spring 2025 run.

  1. January TBD: Electron beam restoration.
  2. January 24th - July 20th: 26 weeks for upgraded ECal commissioning and GlueX-II/JEF. As of 11/20/24, one or two weeks shift is expected ⇒ January 31st - July 27th:
  • Accelerator overall plan and priorities: Deliver physics beam to 4 halls
  • Hall D plan summary:
    • Beam and detector check-out: 50 - 300 nA. ~ a day.
      • Commission new beam profiler from Regina (Hovanes).
    • Commission of ECal (~ a month. 150 nA)
      • Opportunistic tests during possible pauses of ECAL Commissioning:
        • Diamond alignment (Hovanes, see below)
        • CDC HV scans (Beni, Naomi). Need compatible trigger
        • ToF HV scans (Beni). Need compatible trigger
        • Lead glass HV scans (Malte). Need compatible trigger
        • Study thick 80μm new diamond (Richard).
        • Others?
    • Commissioning of FCal (In parallel with ECal. Needs a commissioning plan.)
    • Diamond alignment: Stable beam (no frequent trip) 20 nA without FSD for 2-3 shifts.
    • Experiment: GlueX-II/JEF E12-12-002
    • 2 TAC runs. ~nA or less. The bleedthrough should be small compare to it. 1 run just after ECAL Commissioning. Another near the end of the run.
      • Ideally, TAC run should be done with the other Halls off.
      • If not possible, the next best option is to have both A and C not at 5 passes, so that magnetic extraction is performed (less bleedthrough than with RF separation).
        • Either Hall A or C or both are at 5 passes during the whole run ⇒ we will have to watch for opportunity when the Hall at 5 passes is down.
    • High luminosity runs: up to 1 week at 650nA, and up to 1 day at 1 uA.
    • 2 empty target runs (300 nA). 1 run at the start of GlueX-II data taking. Another near the end of the run.
    • Straight track run: 2 shifts (50% efficiency: one shift of good data) (50 nA on 10-4 R.L. radiator).
    • Opportunistic tests:
      • GEM-TRD test during ECAL Commissioning Positioned 3 to 6 o'clock in front of forward detectors, looking downstream.

Readiness for Spring 2025 run

  • Solenoid (Tim/Eugene/Beni/Scott):
    • Solenoid is cold and partly checked out.
  • Surveys (Tim/Scott)
    • Surveys yet to be finalized or TBD:
      • ToF
      • May need to redo the goniometer survey if we install a 80 μm diamond.
      • PS may need to be redone.
      • DIRC
      • Beam pipe
      • Luminosity monitor
  • DAQ (Sergei).
    • Sergei is reconfiguring the DAQ step by step because the old softwares are not supported anymore. It should be finished soon.
  • Trigger (Alex Somov).
    • List of triggers to be used for checkout/tests during ECal commissioning:
      • BCAL cosmic M9 and M10 - the sooner, the better
      • BCAL_FCAL M9 and M10 - when we have beam. For CDC HV scan (Naomi). As we have not used the CDC for so long, Naomi is concerned that something might have changed in the gas system, particularly the mass flow controllers. ⇒ need to verify that we are getting the intended gas mix as early as possible, so that if there is something wrong, it can be fixed in time.
  • Beam line
    • Diamond status (Tim/Hovanes).
      • Install one of the thick 80μm new diamonds.
      • Remove spent diamond JD70-105 for anneal tests at U.Conn. Richard needs to glue it to its holders. Need to have it before mid-January.
      • Putting new diamond and/or removing mounted diamond ⇒ re-surveying the goniometer. (Presumably, after mid-January.)
    • Tagger magnet
      • Ready and NMR is working.
    • Tagger hodoscope (A. Somov).
    • Tagger microscope (R. Jones/Igal).
    • Goniometer (Hovanes).

    • Collimator Motion (Hovanes).
      • tested and working
    • Active collimator detectors(Richard)
    • Profiler (Hovanes)
      • New profiler (Regina): All tests are fine and surveyed, but will need to be checked with beam.
    • Luminosity monitor (=Active Target) (Hovanes).
    • Halo monitors (Hovanes)

      • Including ECAL fan into the interlock (?)
      • Waiting for the trigger firmware
    • FCal (Malte/Mark Dalton)
      • Lot of work done since last week. Running it now with LED and cosmics.
    • ToF (Simon/Beni).
      • Installed
      • Once it is surveyed and cabled (before Christmas in principle), it can be powered and checked out.
      • Need to take (non-beam) data to re-calibrate TDC chips. Need to wait for ToF to be cabled. Calibration data taking takes a long time (~week).

Live Camera Feeds from the Four Counting Houses

  1. These feeds SHOULD be open and visible at all times from one of the monitors in each of the counting houses.
  2. Management cautions AGAINST opening them from other locations or offsite, out of concern for available bandwidth.
  • Beni will contact Walt Hakers to inquire about their status.
