Wednesday June 27

HC beam delivery not going well, ran at 25-30uA last night, we're likely to be down again today, there's an extra meeting after the 8am MCC mtg.

  1. Last 24h:
  2. Shift summaries from Tuesday: early riser day swing owl
  3. Reports:
  4. Issues:
  5. Plan:
    • Continue production
    • HB down at present. At some point in the future we should start a new run when HB tell us that the e beam polarization/halfwave plate has been changed.
    • Expect next no-target runs at the weekend, CPP will discuss running without low E tagH

Tuesday June 27

  1. Last 24h:
    • MCC reset the 5C11 harp chassis and it seems to have recovered.
    • No beam from 8:48am until 8:30pm (MCC spent the day getting beam to hall C, then waited out the thunderstorm).
    • Took test runs with and without target.
    • Event rates have returned to 60kHz.
    • Event rates are equal with new and old trigger config, so we continue to use the new trigger config.
    • 22:38 100nA (no DAQ, no radiator) for Alexandre
    • Rates in Tag H low energy counters were high (4.5MHz) with 70nA no-tgt run. Sasha said keep below 4MHz unless it's short.
    • Took a short raw mode run, the daq livetime dropped as usual but then rose only to ~84% when the beam was off. Restarted.
    • MCC adjusted orbit locks without a word to us. I asked for a heads up next time.
  2. Shift summaries from Monday: early riser day swing owl
  3. Reports:
  4. Plans:
    • No beam during day shift
    • Tagger hall being swept so that Mark can make an access to look at the helicity signals
    • Sasha will make the new/test CPP configuration into the default CPP configuration and also make a matching raw mode config.
    • Sasha will also make a config file for the TAGH with the low energy counters switched off
    • CPP team will decide whether to switch off the above counters or reduce the beam current for the no-target runs.
    • Harp scans after beam restoration
    • Return to production

Monday June 27

  1. MCC has an extra meeting after the 8am meeting to discuss plans for the week (getting C to high current)
  2. Friday:
    • Beam restored at 9pm
    • Richard completed the TagM scan
    • Richard looked at the AC current balance and thought it looked okay, asked us to watch for correlated movement in x & y
    • Quiet production running w Pb target through owl shift (with hall C at only 20 uA).
    • Shift summaries for Friday: early riser day swing owl 65 kHz during owl
  3. Saturday:
    • PD meeting news: RF need to work in the accelerator tunnel to get higher current to Hall C. They think something is really out of place. So that this can be done on Monday, when more experts are available, the schedule was switched so that Hall B's spin dance will be on Sunday and we have to do our TAC run today. https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4007156
    • Bo spotted that the random pulser was not running (it was running on Friday evening).
    • Sasha took a little data with the TAC when Hall C was inadvertently down (their magnet problem, and then they gave us an extra 10 mins) and a lot more with it running at 20 uA. Bleedthrough was about 20% of our current.
    • Sasha found a bottleneck in one of the data concentrators, thought he had fixed the DAQ livetime issues.
    • DAQ problems during owl shift and Sergey was called.
    • Shift summaries for Saturday: early riser day swing owl 70 kHz at 9am
    • monitoring plots for 100674, last run before TAC run
  4. Sunday:
    • PD meeting news: Hall B's spin dance will take place today; we can expect several interruptions to beam delivery. Tomorrow there will be an extra planning meeting after the 8am MCC mtg. The accelerator is experiencing BLM trips which could be due to RF or optics or both. Hall C has been receiving 1/4 of their intended beam current. It is likely that this week's day shifts will be devoted to fixing this.
    • We continued taking production data when possible (lost about half the day shift to the spin dance).
    • Bo updated several of the reference monitoring plots
    • DAQ has been okay so far. The trigger rate seems to be half of what it was before the TAC run. Why? Scalers from TOF, CTOF, FCAL and intensity counter (which sits inside the beam, on the platform a few m in front of the TAC) are low but BCAL scalers & CDC HVB current are normal.
    • Taking a harp scan.
    • STARTED USING NEW CPP TEST TRIGGER
    • Shift summaries for Sunday: early riser day swing owl 30kHz during early riser & swing ???
  5. Reports:
  6. Issues:
  7. Plans:
    1. Switch to diamond.
    2. Remove target.
    3. (A) Run with new trigger, 15 mins 70nA
    4. Put target back in
    5. (B) Run with old trigger 15 mins 30nA
    6. (C) Run with new trigger 15 mins 30nA
    7. If the event rate does not change between B and C, keep using the new trigger.
    8. Get a few minutes at 100nA in between runs (no need to use the daq)
    9. 10 minute raw mode run
    10. Then continue with the program.
    11. Postponing harp scans until tomorrow after beam is restored.

Friday June 24

  1. Last 24h:
  2. Shift Summaries
  3. Reports
    • MCC still recovering the machine. RF recovery turned out to be hard, did not finish that until around 8pm, then ops group started phasing up all the cavities. This is apparently almost complete but with no RF headroom. MCC would like to take another 4h to work on this but don't have all the RF group experts today. However they plan to replace an arc detector & look for low spot in a waveguide that might be full of water. Should have beam by 11am-12pm if nothing else breaks (their words).
    • MCC today & this weekend will try high current to XC. Monday spin dance for B. Hall C does not have any planned downtime.
    • Bleedthrough prediction from Hovanes
    • Beam structure from Beni
  4. Issues
  5. Plans
    • Richard (available all day) + Hovanes (more available before 4pm) look at A.C. Naomi will email Edy, Matt + Mike a heads up.
    • Richard - repeat 2 rows in microscope scan
    • Return to production. Cycle through 240M events for each of 45perp, 45perp, 135para, 135para, then 60M events on the AMO on the goniometer.
    • Production as above should be our default for 6d, with 1d on empty target.
    • Try again for the TAC run on Friday or at the weekend. Sasha would like 1-2h to set up, then some time to evaluate before taking the rest of the data.
    • Next meeting will be Monday unless there is a sudden need during the weekend.
  6. Commissioning steps temporarily postponed:
    • Flux optimization/Act .Col. calibration
    • Bleed-through test: measure bleed-through with A slit as usual and A slit completely closed to see whether using B slit would help.

Thursday June 23

  1. Last 24h:
  2. Shift Summaries
  3. Reports
    • From MCC: Reminder that 911 from lab phone is forwarded to normal 911 and also automatically informs the crew chief, guard shack, etc that there's an emergency, crew are CPR qualified & have AED. This doesn't happen from RC phones (or cellphones). No problem w 911 from other phone; if there's a lab phone handy it saves some time.
    • Power shed 3-4pm today, beam restoration likely 5pm+.
    • MCC planning to raise the current to Hall C.
  4. Issues
  5. Plans
    • No beam until swing.
    • Walk-through at 11am
    • Site exit opposite Tech Center closed most of the day - need to exit by resfac or Lidl.
    • Put the target back (done).
    • Sasha - check straight target configuration.
    • Sasha - make new CPP configuration as requested by email
    • Richard - repeat 2 rows in microscope scan
    • Return to production. Cycle through 240M events for each of 45perp, 45perp, 135para, 135para, then 60M events on the AMO on the goniometer.
    • Production as above should be our default for 6d, with 1d on empty target.
    • Try again for the TAC run on Friday evening
  6. Commissioning steps temporarily postponed:
    • Flux optimization/Act .Col. calibration
    • Bleed-through test: measure bleed-through with A slit as usual and A slit completely closed to see whether using B slit would help.
