Collaboration Meeting Agenda

All were happy with the latest agenda. Curtis lengthened the allotted times to allow for more discussion.

DAQ Status

See Graham's talk above for more details. Major problem is two new DAQ hires approved but still not funded! Most things unrelated to new hires in good shape, things behind waiting on new hires.

  • Linux on front end computers seems to be the future, Dave working on porting drivers.
  • PPC falling behind compared to Intel-based front-end boards.
  • Less need for real-time operating system in front-end boards in 12 GeV era.
  • Will support Linux boards in CODA 2.6 and use in 6 Gev program.
  • Prototype EB and ER (using EMU framework) moving along, interfaced to new run control.
  • Beginning work on event decoding/encoding in EB and true event building.
  • Internal event format and header conventions developed, based on block-read capabilities of front-end digitizer boards.
  • EVIO output file format unchanged but considering new features, e.g. elimination of fixed block sizes (which is a holdover from the days of magnetic tape storage).
  • New AFECS-based run control Jade-free, now only uses cMsg (written at JLab).
  • Planning to introduce new run control into the halls soon.
  • FAIR may be interested in the new run control, possible collaboration.
  • cMsg used all over now, well established, bugs being fixed.
  • CODA3 is high priority in the BIA (Baseline Improvement Program) but still no new hires, not sure why.
  • ROC, TS, EMU slipping because no new hires.

Electronics

Chris gave a brief update, see the Electronics Wiki page. In general things are on track, testing is proceeding.
