Event Display

Andrew Blackburn presented current status of ded, the Hall D event display. Andrew will continue to work for Dave Heddle this coming academic year at CNU, and part of his time will be spend on ded. He will stop developing and begin documenting this summer's work by mid-Aug.

  • Most DANA objects in the EVIO file are being displayed.
  • Most views from the ROOT-based display are duplicated.
  • Most display options from ROOT-based display are duplicated.
  • ded "How-to" can be found on the GlueX wiki page.
  • Currently can read events from DANAEVIO plugin over a socket, as well as from an EVIO file.
  • Will soon implement event transfer via the Hall B CLARA framework.
  • ded uses tabbed displays, despite Dave H's aversion to them!
  • 3-D coming eventually, when Dave H. completes implementation in bCNU framework.
  • Associated objects and drill-down displays coming. This does not exist in ROOT-based display.
  • We are using bCNU as it comes from Hall B, and have no plans to branch off.
  • Dave H is working on FLEX-based display server capability.

RootSpy

Justin Barry gave a brief update on RootSpy. He's completing work on new I/O options and multiple hist display, as well as cleaning up some of the code produced by the previous high school student. Communicating cut strings to the hist servers is coming.

CODA includes

Elliott noted that the current CODA distribution strategy built into the scons and make files has a limitation: there is a single, common include directory, and the platform-specific include dirs only implement links back to the common dir. This fails if one platform is using a different version that has different include files, since the install command will overwrite include files in the common include dir with those from the platform-specific release.

One option is to have many separate platform-specifid CODA distribution dirs, but then why have platform-specific dirs in the first place.

The simplest solution is to replace links in the platform-specific dirs with actual copies of the include files. Elliott will talk this over with Carl Timmer when he returns.

DANAEVIO

Elliott reported on the current status of the DANAEVIO plugin.

  • 20 DANA objects currently supported, another 20 coming. This exhausts all useful DANA objects.
  • Can feed ded event display via socket.
  • CLARA event source capability to be added soon.
  • Dave L has initial EVIODANA capability, will complete this by the Fall.

Trigger Test Stand

Alex reported that the full playback mode is working, 2 TID boards are coming soon, and that he plans to use Linux-based rocs when they become available. There was some discussion on why he wants to switch. The basic reason is that we are planning to use Linux rocs in the experiment, Linux drivers have been developed to parallel all VxWorks drivers, we need to gain experience with Linux and the new drivers, and there is nothing urgent that needs to be done that would preclude spending time learning how the Linux rocs work. In other words, there is no reason not to switch to Linux at our earliest convenince.

Note that the DAQ group ordered three models of Intel-based rocs for evaluation. When they arrive they will return our Intel-based roc that they have been using as a development platform (n.b. we own two...Gerard has the other one).

Coil Test

Elliott reported on plans to move the controls hardware out of F117 and into the Test Lab. Once we are done in F117 Fernando plans to use it for FDC testing and development.
