Pre-CD3 Tracking Meeting

FDC

  • Validation of the current Cathode Design
    • Need to carry out tracking studies to determine

if we need the cathodes or if we can go with a wire design. Answer by January 10th.

  • Criteria used to decide. What is the level of photon

conversions in the outer dead area. What is the expected resolution in the edge areas of the magnetic field with regard the 200 micron resolution. Also looking to correct edge effect that Simon has seen in the fringe field. We still se a mis-assignment on the order of 15% of tracks. We don't have the full crieteria at this point in time.

  • Internal review on week later.
  • Cooling of front-end cards, preliminary design for FDC
    • estimating 2W per card. Cooling loops spiral chamber 24

times and card are thermally attached to these. Maintain temperature of the card at 90F. 65mW per channel.

  • Finish full scale prototype by June 2008
  • ASIC tests at the end of February. Need shapers and 100MhZ FADC
    • Status of Shapers, Simon has two of these boards and plans a

prototype in January. Ask Gerard about schedule.

    • Preamp cards should be ready just after Thanksgiving.
  • ** Preamps sent on 30 Nov.
    • CMU will send Fernando details of HV boards for CDC after

Thanksgiving.

    • Send an email to Gerard about coming to either JLab or CMU

and then getting tracking people together.

    • Spacer Allignment System used in HERMES.
    • Alignment monitoring system for FDC & CDC. Early March.
    • Insertion/Allignment tolerences.

Electronics

Would like a schematic of the CDC HV Board? Can Fernando and Tim come to CMU top look at things.

CDC

  • Timing resolution by Dec. 20.
  • dE/dx end of January.
  • Charge Division tests by the end of February
  • Cooling by blown air. Fernando will test.
  • Alignment issues are common with the FDC.
  • Finalize the straw tube layout. The inner
radius is fixed. The outer radius has to do
with space needed between BCAL and CDC.
Length of chamber needs to be spec'd as well.
A DIRC needs 10cm of space minimum space.
Curtis will look at current geometry
