Minutes

  1. Announcements
    • John will be giving the DIRC update at the collaboration meeting.
  2. Focusing optics and mirror status (John)
    • There was a meeting with the Bates engineers yesterday to update on the mirror progress
      • There have been some issues observed with the initial grinding quality causing dispersion in one direction but not the other
      • The hope is that the Nickel plating and grinding will help resolve some of this issue
      • They are working on 3 small 10 x 10 (?) samples to test different parts of the procedure and determine
      • The large flat mirror can only be done at a couple companies which can handle this size of mirror while the smaller samples can be done by several companies
      • The hope is to have the samples completed by late May - early June to start testing the optical properties
    • John will start next week on developing the procedure for testing reflectivity, etc. at Bates
  3. Simulation and reconstruction (John and Justin)
    • Justin has been working on the hdds geometry for simulating the DIRC in hdgeant, and gave John ROOT files with hits on the DIRC readout plane for a sample of pions and kaons.
    • John is working on including these simulations in his standalone fitting code
  4. Shipping crate (Matt)
    • The shipping crate was fabricated by Rock-It Cargo and delivered to Indiana 2 weeks ago.
    • The mock bar box was placed in the crate with 12 accelerometers that read at 400Hz
    • Testing in the lab was done by dropping the box a few inches to see the stresses, and found that padding was too stiff.
    • John Frye is also working on the mechanical structure design for the vertical and horizontal orientations, although we're leaning strongly towards the horizontal.
    • Also collaborating with Claus Foul (moving bar box to CERN) who is studying the frequency decomposition.
  5. Readout update (Justin/Fernando)
    • Justin is in contact with the various vendors for the MAPMTs (Hamamatsu), MAROC3 chips (Omega group), and ASIC boards (INFN)
    • There are several other projects with larger orders of H12700 MAPMTs than ours, but we'll hopefully know more about the lead time in a couple weeks
    • Fernando met with Ben Raydo about the FPGA board and interfacing with the SSP and will continue to follow up on that front
    • Matt reminded us that Paul Smith (IU) is very interested in helping with the electronics if we have some additional projects or things to study
  6. Planning for October review (All)
    • We discussed the timeline for the review and preparing the TDR, and agreed to the rough outline to be shown next week at the collaboration meeting so people are aware of the deadlines and can participate if they wish
  7. AOB
    • Eugene reminded us that we should have a list of items we could purchase this fiscal year if funds were available, so we'll come up with a list of "off-the-shelf" items that could be bought now.
    • The next meeting will be Friday, May 22
