Items for followup from previous meeting(s)

  1. Monitoring
    • Matt to coordinate with Christina on the shipment of glass blocks and pmts/dividers for monitoring system test.
    • Bcal: Testing to see if LED sources can be viewed by pmts on both sides of the module (UofR).
  2. Fcal
    • Decision on rad hard detectors
    • Check instability of FEU-84 pmt gains / finalize number / order additional FEU-84 pmts

Minutes

Attendees:Fernando, Yi, John, Pedro, Tim, Eugene, Elton, Beni, Lubomir, Sasha (JLab); Zisis, Andrei, George (UofR); George, Christina (Athens); Ryan (IU)

  1. Announcements
  2. Review of Action Items
  3. Calibration/Monitoring Media:Cal-18-3-09-ath.ppt
    1. Adapter manufactured to shine LED to bundle of 16 fibers
    2. LED pulsed at 10 V, uniformity sigma=70 mV, and average ~ 600 mV.
    3. Likely will need difuser for the final system
    4. Will: should plan for one extra fiber per LED to monitor sensor of multiple LEDs.
    5. Regina: Have circuit for LED to be used for testing near/far light collection. Use 2x2 cm2 Winston cones and setup initially with pmts. Will also study coupling of LED to lightguide.
    6. George V: preliminary test conducted with Baby Bcal and transmit about 25% of light (encouraging). With additional attenuation, might expect a ratio of 1/10 between near and far sensors.
    7. Eugene: Consider system where fiber bundle is mechanically attached to light guide group.
  4. FCAL
    1. Rad hard glass resolution studies ongoing. Preliminary results shos that reesolution might be worse than first estimated.
    2. Proceed with order of FEU-84 pmts?
      • JLab has told company that checking pmts will be completed in March, so that order can be sent out.
      • Gain stability has been good over a few days.
    3. To shashlyk or not to shashlyk. Postpone discussion to furture meeting. First need to decide how decision will be made.
  5. BCAL
    1. Construction status
      1. Module 05 is up to 170 layers, Module 06 up to 130 layers.
      2. By March 24 Module 04 will be finished at RMS and so will be the go-no-go gauge for the alignment pins.
      3. On March 27 (Saturday) we are going to RMS to carry out the transmission uniformity tests for Modules 02-04 and go over all travellers.
      4. We hope to ship the modules to JLab just before or right after Easter weekend.
    2. Fibre tests (Shipment 10) are proceeding nominally.
    3. Lead tally is done, we need a teleconference (JLab-Regina) to decide on the quantity of lead for the last shipment and other logistics.
      • Tim checked with Vulcan. They are preparing the fourth and last shipment for middle of next week. If make-up amount is a few percent, they will add to this shipment. Otherwise, they will schedule a 5th smaller shipment.
      • (Phone conferencen tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 pm eastern).
    4. Media:Module1-Uniformity.pdf Module 1 uniformity looks reasonable within accuracy of method.
      • (Notes added by Elton): Poor environment for measurements. Will go on Saturday March 27 to avoid congestion when testing mods 2-4.
      • Proposal for testing modules 5-48: Use single light source with photographic umbrella and take digital picture for permanent record.
  6. Simulations
    1. List of runs to be discussed at Bcal readout meeting (next week)
  7. Other Updates
  8. BCAL
