Light Guide Rework Plan

- Second generation (new modules)
- implement new gluing procedure on all new modules
- monitor glue joints for 3 days before packing up
- First generation modules (old procedures used)
- Fix the black spot problem before rework
- Confirm list of detached light guides to be reworked
- Reglue all light guides with detached light guides
- illuminate guides showing no detachment with 50 s of UV light through the front
- Light guides
- Lightly sand base with 600 grit paper.
- If required to take off additional material, use 400 grit paper, then 600 grit.
- Note: This process will be checked by Keith so ensure that 280 grit is not needed.
- Lifting
- Setup/process for lifting tops off boxes
- Tom has suggested and approved a process for lifting the tops
- Major rework
- Treat in a similar way to new modules
- Modules with major rework should be worked under the tent
- These modules have been moved to the ESB for repair
- Full testing after repairs are complete.
- Monitor glue joints for 3 days before packing up. Note: continue monitoring 10 & 33 for a longer period
- Minor rework
- Likely rework down in the hall
- Move the tent down to the hall?
- Illuminate guides with no rework with 50 s of UV light through the front
- Visual check of LEDs when work is complete.
- Determination of detached status
- "Detached" is to mean that an area corresponding to more than 8 fibers is separated.
- On Monday, Bobby, Tina and Keith will independently make a visual evaluation of the detached status of light guides of modules on the floor of the ESB.
- They will compare notes and, with Elton, come to a consensus of which light guides are to be classified as "detached"
- Following this exercise, any of the three persons above, will make the determination of the light guide detached status
- Documentation
- Feedback to Jim on his new procedures document
- Finalize version 1 and place under document control
- I have submitted the Pansophy Rework sheet to be added to the system
- Changes to the procedures
- Any changes of procedures will have to be approved by Elton, or by Tim if Elton is not available.
- Modifications will be made in consultation with all personnel working on the project.
