Minutes

Attending: JLab: Curtis, Fernando, Matt, and Justin, MIT: Mike and John, GSI: Roman

  1. Announcements
  2. Simulation update (Roman)
    • Roman showed a live demo of the standalone Geant4 simulation being developed at GSI
    • With this setup the plan is to study the photon yield, mirror options (curved vs 3-segment flat mirror) and Cherenkov angle reconstruction with a look-up table algorithm
  3. Focusing optics and mirror status (John) [5]
    • John showed images of the mirror test setup he's developing at MIT Bates with nice images with the new LEDs and mirrors from Thorlab
      • This setup will measure the reflectivity of the flat mirrors which are currently with the vendor, and reference to a mirror with known reflectivity from Thorlab
    • The company who currently has the mirrors decided they cannot lap the largest mirror we provided (after 3 weeks delay)
      • Trying to get one of the smaller mirrors lapped there now and looking for other companies to do the larger mirror
    • Goal is to have at least one mirror through the full processes and tested at Bates before the end of July to be ready for October review
  4. Mechanical structure and shipping crate
    • Matt reported that the test box was loaded in the shipping crate in a truck and taken out on the road at Indiana
    • Some shocks at 1g level and some ~20Hz resonance seen which is being looked into.
    • John Frye is making more modifications to the shipping crate and there will be more tests on the road
    • John is also working on the mechanical structure for the horizontal orientation
  5. Readout update: Block Diagram (Fernando) [6]
    • Fernando put together a plan for the full readout with a block diagram including LV, HV, etc. that he discussed. The estimated costs are included in the budget table below
  6. Capital Equipment budget planning (All) [7]
    • We discussed the budget items in the context of Eugene's request for items to procure in FY16
    • It would be beneficial to join the orders for electronics components which we have in common with the CLAS12 RICH that will begin production in October
    • MIT will work on budget estimates for the full scale detector that can be included in this table and what could be purchased in FY16
    • There was some discussion about preparing "Resource loaded schedule" to determine what dependencies between components are required, put together a quarterly budget with some kind of Gantt chart like schedule. Justin will follow up with Elton who has used this software before.
  7. Planning for October review (All)
    • We discussed the TDR document and decided to assign sections to individuals so we can each work on our own piece of the document in SVN
    • After the meeting Curtis and Justin sat together to flesh out the outline and assign writers for different sections.
    • The document in SVN is updated with these assignments and individuals should complete their outline before the next meeting
  8. AOB
