  • Liping plans to visit Peking University over the winter break to give a seminar and a short lecture series about hadron physics (including JEF, GlueX, PrimEx, proton radius...) for graduate students.
  • Preparations for addressing PAC issues
    • Studies for running in parallel with GlueX are needed. We acknowledged that we need a new round of simulations including the new Hybrid calorimeter geometry. Ilya is here in the states and should be able to help out with the simulation and reconstruction of showers.
    • Moving forward: we need to understand proton identification better -- perhaps include dEdx in the start counter?
  • Dave went over some of the slides for the presentation he gave at W&M.
    • Much of the discussion was about C-violating channels (e.g. η→3γ, η→2π0γ, asymmetries in η→π+π-π0)
      • Backgrounds for multi-photon final states will be large in FCAL, but in principle we can start using the commissioning data.
      • We can consider channels with virtual photons (such as η→π0γ*) -- here the DIRC upgrade for GlueX may help.
      • Theoretical foundation for C-violating channels needs some additional work
    • Dave also touched on the dark matter search. The B→π0γ channels needs the upgraded calorimeter but other channels may be accessible with the existing FCAL
  • We discussed Moskov Amarian's presentation at the recent JLab spectroscopy conference. He and his collaborators have studied an impressive number of channels using the CLAS detector, including many channels relevant to us, such as η Dalitz distributions. It was certainly food for thought for what we can think about doing with GlueX, with its more uniform acceptance relative to CLAS.
    • One thing that came out of this discussion is how feasible would it be to flip the solenoid field direction in GlueX for studying systematic effects. Dave M. said he would discuss this with Yi Qiang.
