Agenda

Minutes

Attendees: Sasha,Igal,Josh,Zisis,Jon,Jane,Liping,Susan,Tim B.,Jared,Bill B.

  • Jane reported on her visit to Shanghai to inspect 174 new SICCAS crystals
    • Did longitudinal transmission + visual checks
    • generally better quality than previous batch (less scratches and chips)
      • Chamfers still have quality control issues
    • Found 3 obviously discolored crystals (1 purple, 1 yellow, 1 brown) and several mildly discolored crystals
      • Suggested set of a few that we would reject (not have SICCAS send to us), some "maybes"
    • Found some crystals with cloudy regions using laser test
  • Josh/Sasha working on inventory and setting up TEDF area for more crystal construction
    • Working on brazing tool (temp control,...), want to automate procedure more
    • Need to get mu-metal shields from Tim W., also waiting for light guides (asked vendor to try to improve polishing quality)
    • Still working on getting access to Carl Zorn's lab for transmittance measurements
    • Josh will continue to work on ESR preshaping
  • PMT base developments: week of 10/5, will take bases out of COMCAL setup
    • Chris S. will debug why 2 modified bases did not work
    • Sasha will bring COMCAL to floor of hall for refurbishment
    • Zisis volunteered lab space in Regina for PMT base tests (will need to work on paperwork for this, MOU expired?), also could do some work at UNCW?
      • Zisis has colleague who could give feedback on electronics
  • Igal gave an update on his studies regarding the dark scalar boson search using the η→π0γγ channel
    • Major background = 3 π0; Liping suggested that other backgrounds could be significant (mix in existing data?)
    • FCAL-2 did not appear to provide better FOMs than FCAL (insert should provide better energy resolution and lower the frequency of unresolved shower overlaps)
    • Has made steps toward limit calculations
