Gamma conversions in forward region

Richard showed the results of a quick study he did to see where the initial conversion was taking place for forward going photons. He showed a plot indicating the physical locations of the initial conversion points. The striking result was that the FDC frames represented a significant amount of material. This was the main source of the multi-cluster-from-single-photon events Mihajlo has been reporting on for the FCAL in recent weeks. Richard also showed the "splash pattern" of a number of single events. Some with clean, single clusters and others with unhealthy looking clusters due to showing upstream.

Elke noted that the stong effect of the FDC frames only enhances the motivation for getting the BCAL reconstruction working.

FCAL status

Mihajlo report on progress with the FCAL reconstruction. He noted that at one point he did a few exercises where different materials in the detector were set to "air" while trying to track down the cause of the multi-cluster events. One of these included turing the stainless steel in the FDC frames to air which did not have a big effect. This is because the stainless steel actually represents a fairly small amount of the material in the FDC frames. The bulk of the material is FR-4 for circuit boards.

Collaboration meeting agenda

We discussed what should be included in the software section of the upcoming collaboration meeting. We will definitely have the following talks:

  • FCAL reconstruction - Mihajlo
  • Charged Particle Tracking - David
  • Background Rates - Matt

Other topics suggested:

  • Discussion of goals for CD-2
  • BCAL

Action Items

  1. Put tarballs of external packages on Wiki(David)
  2. SVN web interface for browsing change logs(Mark I.)
  3. Experiment with shared pointers
  4. 12GeV Software Group meetings
  5. Place BCAL info on Wiki
