  1. Announcements: Next meeting will be Thu January 15 at 11:00 am.
  2. FCAL Update
    1. Developed draft construction schedule, iteration with Elke and Tim
    2. John is building a 64-element prototype. Welding straps, magnetic shield tubes. Next semester student starts to work on assembly and QA. Gluing fixture is under construction.
    3. Completing analysis on FCAL timing, with goal of NIM paper
    4. Claire is working on calibration, estimating required statistics for accurate calibrations. Likely presentation at next collaboration meeting.
  3. BCAL Update
    1. Resolution studies (Blake)
      • Poor calibration for last 20 cm of BCAL.
      • Calibration data, coverage in angle and 0-4 GeV in photon energy. Take slices in z and fit cluster energy as a function of thrown energy.
      • George: Should one fit over the entire energy range, since most photons are a lower energies?
      • Will: Use model to correct for leakage, using appropriate functional form (not polynomial) for calibration.
      • Matt: Try to improve reconstruction code, especially for those showers that do not have all cells firing on far side. Use single-sided pulses to compute energy and few hits on far side to determine position. This would result in a 2-pass approach, first to find clusters with substantial energy deposition in both ends of the calorimeter and then recovering showers with limited detection on one side.
    2. SiPMPlus uniformity results (George/Zisis)
      • see images under 'Documents to Review'
      • Baseline shift of 30 mV when bias applied
      • signal exhibits oscillatory behavior, not seen in the electronic boards.
      • Low pulses, UofR to check gain required. Laser providing 10^5 photons/pulse. (ES: Assuming a PDE~0.05, I estimate the amplification x gain to be about 2.10^5). George: Is the amplification in the preamp high enough?
      • The operating and breakdown voltages in the spec sheet seem to be too low. The correct operating values are about 29.7 to 29.8 V. Zisis will send a note to Carl.
      • Will: Could measure width of baseline to be monitored for quality.
      • Fernando: the baseline shift is about 30 mV. Single cells had offsets of 240 μV, multiplying by 16 gives about 4 mV. The actual shift is about 10 times this value. Causes will be investigated. The 10 pF capacitance in the feedback loop could be modified by this is affect the frequency response.
      • Checks of the cells within the array is mixed. The uniformity between working channels is within 10%, but there are 5 dead channels (poor contacts?).
    3. Magnetic Field Update (JLab)
      • First look at new file by Elton seems to indicate that there are fairly large changes compare to old file. He will review this with David returning from the holidays.
    4. Kuraray Visit (Elton)
      • Visit very successful. Reviewed procedures for First Article Tests and agreed on selection. Dye has been ordered for the entire contract. Will wait till February to produce the First Article pieces so that they will be produced with the same uniform dye for production quantities. Also some modifications to the testing procedure were requested and approved.
