Hall D Collimator Meeting Minutes (Monday, January 14, 2013)
Minutes courtesy of Theo Larrieu

Attendance

  • University of Connecticut: Richard Jones, Alex Barnes, James McIntyre
  • Jefferson Lab: Theo Larrieu, Arne Freyberger, Jay Benesch, Pam Kjeldsen, Alicia Hofler, Mike McCaughn, Mike Spata, Alexander Somov, Igor Senderovich, Pete Francis, John Musson, Trent Allison, Brian Bevins

Topics

Richard presented background information about the design of the Hall D collimator as well as the results of testing of the apparatus that has been performed in Hall B. Richard's slides are attached below for the benefit of the meeting participants.

Following Richard's introductory slides was a back-and-forth discussion of how specifically to interface the collimator to the CEBAF control system. The upshot was that whereas earlier testing in Hall B was done on a PC with Labview, it is probably more desirable operationally to have an EPICS IOC hooked up to the collimator to provide control points and readbacks.

Action Items

A team composed of John Musson, Trent Allison, Alexander Somov, Igor Senderovich, Pete Francis, Brian Bevins, Scott Higgins, and Richard Jones will meet within two weeks to draft hardware requirements for an FPGA-based PCB that will make collimator data available to a PC104-based IOC to do the FFB calculations and magnet controls. The group will specify the incoming signals (voltages, bandwidth, etc.) as well as any outputs from the PCB that Hall D will require.
