Minutes

Attendees: David (JLab), Will Levine (CMU), Andrei, Zisis (Regina)

  1. No updates to the BCAL Reconstruction Issues
  2. Will reported to the Offline Working Group yesterday. He will run through the reconstruction code à la BCAL_Reconstruction_Status_Update_20130501 to see what the code does and what it doesn't, in order to identify the origin of the "too many gamma's" problem, namely whether they come from a failure in the merging, or unnatural splitting, etc. Code Path #1 is used now, but we should go to Code Path #4 soon (before collaboration meeting?).
  3. Irina used the most recent tagged version to run 1 GeV gammas at 20 deg. The command line switches as defined in the tagged version README file were used. Surprise: the reconstructed energy came out to be 1.5 GeV. Will will send the precise procedure by email + Wiki page to ensure that Irina is running things correctly. A possible culprit could be an incorrect calibration from ADC to MeV.
  4. Andrei will inspect the code further and implement the amplitude ratio algorithm to see what we gain in cluster recognition. If not surprises are encountered, this should be done before the next collaboration meeting. To this end Andrei demonstrated on Slide 8 of his above presentation that the method works. On that slide the blue distributions are the restored z-coordinate (log scale) and red shows the event-by-event restored minus center of gravity shower (truth tag). This shows that the photo statistics (removed from this picture) are the main contribution to the distributions. The 0.5mm air gap and non Winston Cones selected will have an impact on the acquired photo stats.
  5. Timetable: It was agreed that we should be prepared to at least demonstrate what the issue/origin of the cluster problem is at the upcoming collaboration meeting. Will remind us that his study last year was on the b1pi sample and hadronic events could have been causing some trouble. The studies now will be done starting with single photons.
  6. Manpower: Will, Andrei and Irina will work on these issues over the coming weeks, while David will focus on the PAC proposal (and enjoy the food and wine in Florence).
