BCAL Signal Timing Resolutions

David showed some slides, updating on progress in the Monte Carlo study to determine the BCAL timing resolutions as a function of segmentation scheme. The main highlights were:

  • Time jitter due to the photodetector was added (600ps FWHM/PE)
  • Conditions similar to the 2006 beam test were simulated
    • 150-650MeV
    • 90o center of module
    • New segmentation scheme to roughly match that of module in test
    • 64ps/√E obtained from M.C. vs. 70ps/√E from beam test data
  • Analysis technique used for beam test also applied to M.C.
    • previous technique ignored covariance which turned out to be significant
  • Uncertainty in σΔt was assumed to be 1/√E, but M.C. indicates this may not be optimal.
  • Roughly 20-30% better timing resolution in forward direction for 1234 scheme vs. 334 scheme.

Action Items

  • Continue work on GlueX note on BCAL timing resolutions (David)
  • Write-up quantifying neutron detection efficiency as function of segmentation scheme (?)
