Minutes

Attending: John, Yi, Elton (JLab); Christine, George, Pavlos, Stratos (Athens); Zisis, Andrei (UofR); Will, Serguei, Alam (USM)

  1. Announcements
  2. Review of Action Items
  3. Athens Update
    1. Athens has asked Zisis to order and ship them some LEDs, which they are having trouble obtaining. Zisis agreed. These will be used on the new cards for testing
    2. light_through_cal.pdf
      • "Well" hole (4mm diameter, 3mm deep) made perpendicular to Winston cone surface with a slow speed drill to prevent damage due to overheating
      • LED placed in well optically coupled through air with its axis aligned with that of the light guide.
      • Results obtained earlier showed a far/near ratio of about 3 with blue LED.
      • New results using a green LED. Ratio obtained is about 2.5. George thinks the difference is due to setup, not color of LED, but will check
      • The concept is to mount the LED on reverse side of board, so that the board can lay flat on the light guide and the LED point toward the opposite pmt.
      • The well concept with 'old' trapezoid light guides will be tested shortly.
      • Discussion followed on how to wrap the light guides and attach the LED boards. John emphasized that gluing jigs/process need to be carefully evaluated for successful installation
    3. Request for proposals
      • Proposal is due on July 5, Christine believes she will need an extension. Elton suggested she request an extension to have sufficient time to produce a credible proposal.
  4. SiPM update
    1. UofR
      • Setup for PDE measurements are proceeding
        • Have sufficient hardware in hand for the immediate tests, but have requested an extra summed board and a power connector from Fernando.
      • JLab is working on a setup to test the temperature dependence of the SiPMs
        • Ivan had to return to Russia, so Yi is working with two summer students.
        • Software is ready, but they are waiting on the preamp/summing board now
  5. Electrical/cooling (Elton)
    • Mechanical prototype has been completed and preliminary measurements of temperature across the cooling plate is being measured for different fluid flow rates.
  6. USM Update
    1. Electronics
      • Good progress solving problems
      • Lab is being reconfigured to hold the new robot. Room should be completed in a couple of weeks
      • Continue to work in the other three rooms, although it is a little tight.
      • Big boards continue under test with the goal of having them fully tested before ordering parts
    2. PDE station
      • Test setup is being put together and environment has fairly good temp and humidity stability
    3. Light guide splitting setup is being setup
    4. Software for the test station is progressing
      • Hayk and an informatics student are helping on this project, especially the data base.
      • Trying to find another student that can help with the data base interfaces
      • The database is quite large with many entries,
    5. Negotiations with Hamamatsu
      • Bailey has been out of town and slowed down interactions
      • Will believes all contract issues have been settled and USM has issued a PO to Hamamatsu to complete the negotiations
      • Expect invoice from Hamamatsu soon to start production timeline.
  7. Geometry and light guides
  8. Simulations
