* The problem with USE_SC_TIME has been resolved. The numbers are much more reasonable now.

* The overall efficiency is about 91%, but there are still caveats.

* There is a clear lack of efficiency at the tip of the nose section. This may be due to tracking resolution.

  • FIU: Werner Boeglin, Mahmoud Kamel
  • JLab: Mark Ito (chair), Eric Pooser, Simon Taylor, Beni Zihlmann

Announcements

The magnet will not be cold until mid-January. If we do get some running in December it will be with field off. We thought that for the start counter, a lot of the calibrations we might do with beam could be done under those conditions as long as background levels were reasonable.

Run Readiness

We should start to look as cosmic ray data to check the health of the start counter systems.

Calibration Update

Question from Sean: How much more data is needed to perform all calibrations with beam data? 10 times? 100 times?

Eric thought that based on his experience with using one run, run 2931 (8 hours of data taking, 75 M events), we would need about 20 times more data to do a complete calibration.

Review of minutes from the previous meeting

We looked at the minutes from the August 13 meeting.

  • Eric continues to work on the calibration note. He is also putting together a not on the start counter construction and plans to revisit the start counter section of the TCR.
  • The last release of sim-recon (1.5.1) does not include that latest changes to the PID library and HDGeant. Their effect has not yet been studied thoroughly. They are present on the master branch.

Efficiency Update

Mahmoud gave an update on his efficiency studies. For all of the details see his slides. A few points from his presentation:

  • The problem with USE_SC_TIME has been resolved. The numbers are much more reasonable now.
  • The overall efficiency is about 91%, but there are still caveats.
  • There is a clear lack of efficiency at the tip of the nose section. This may be due to tracking resolution.
  • He will look at the efficiency in finer bins in z. For this presentation he looked at three regions: nose, bend, and straight.

Collaboration Meeting

Eric and Mahmoud will get together and plan a talk in the PID session.
