News from Ken Livingston

The diamonds [promised by Element 6] are supposed to arrive within the next 2 days. Here's the description I've beeen given on the phone:

• 2 x Type 1b Natural, yellowish colour
• 2 x Type 3a Synthetic cvd, cubic (probably means square)
• 2 x Type 2a Synthetic hpht, octahedral, bright white
• 2 x Type 2a Natural, large, irregular brownish.

Yang will ask a Glasgow technician to make some mounts for them. These diamonds need to go back to Element 6 fairly soon, or they'll invoice us for them. I said we'd discuss what we want to keep and what to return after the beamtime.

Alas, despite my clear request for thin crystals, the diamonds are quite literally stones! One is the size of the koh-i-noor. These stones are all different, but roughly they are all 5mm x 5mm x 5mm. One of them is 14mm x 8mm x 5mm, the natural diamond.
