Agenda
- Previous meeting: Mar 11, 2014
- Announcements
- Update on muon chamber mechanical design issues (Rory)
- Next meeting
Minutes
Attendees: David L., Elton S., Rory M.
- Rory gave an update on the MWPC development
- Considering two options for wire deadening in the beam region
- Use CuSO4 plating to increase the thickness of the wires and therefore decrease the gain. (This is what was done for the FDC chambers)
- Replace part of Al grounding plate with PCB with 1/16" Cu set to HV to reduce gain of wires in that region
- Calculation of wire tensioning needed to counteract the force to the the electric field indicates only ~2.4g is needed
- The field wires help here
- May use something like 50g
- Calculation of deflection of Al plates due to gas pressure was also done.
- ~2cm deflection for nominal design
- Some discussion and brainstorming of how to address this was had. Some ideas were:
- Match chamber pressure with atmosphere and pump on the exhaust
- Back the Al plates with honeycomb structure to reinforce it
- Butt the chambers up next to the iron blocks to use them for reinforcement
- Considering two options for wire deadening in the beam region
