Agenda

Preparation of parts for ECAL -- Sasha

  • - HV distribution boards [1][2]
- Connectors and cables were installed on the PCBs of 2 HV distribution boards. Sammy and Chris are working on the third board, it will likely be ready during next week (Sammy also works on GEM/TRD)
- Boxes for HV boards have been just been ordered. Expected delivery date 11/15/2024.
- Vince P. has machined parts for two temporary distribution boards. Two temporary HV distribution boards were assembled. The holes for connectors were too narrow, the tech group fixed it.
- Have received all parts for the new version of the LMS light source

Installation of the FCAL2 detector & integration to GlueX -- Sasha, All

  • Installation of the light distribution board of the ECAL LMS [3]
- Vlad P. has slightly modified the design of the LMS light source in order to increase the amount of light. Chris S. is working on a new board with 9 LEDs.
  • Implementing ECAL into the GlueX DAQ [4]
- rocecal3 crate was fixed [5] (initial DAQ implementation [6])
- implementing flash ADC scalers [7][8]
- translation table for the ECAL (finalize/check translation DB, generate xml file, import to the CCDB) - done [9]
- implementing and verifying ECAL LMS trigger [10]
- implementing and verifying the ECAL physics trigger. First event reconstructed using the GlueX software [11]
- Start implementing VTP trigger modules. Requires modification of firmware. The trigger crates may be unavailable for 1 - 1.5 months.
- The VTP was installed in the D2-1-TOP crate, IP address assigned, and can be booted now
- Connecting cooling pipes to the ECAL fan (done by tech group)
- Installing dark room ceiling and insulation inside the room, required for cooling test (almost complete)
- Test cooling system (in progress, almost complete)
- Installing HV distribution boards, start switching the detector ON (waiting for HV boxes)

Restoring PS test setup [21]

ECAL commissioning -- Sasha, All

Minutes

Attendees: Sasha, Liping, Igal, Xiaolin, Laveen, Olga, Vlad, Phil, Axel, Jane, Zhikun, S.T.

  • No news on HV boxes, still expect November 18 delivery
    • Using 2 temporary boxes allowing checking 1/2 ECAL
      • Read out flash-ADC scalers using LED light source at 500 Hz
        • Found several holes due to slightly disconnected dividers, now fixed
        • Some problems appear to be due to jostling of chains (maybe need more than velcro to tie together? Metal rods?)
        • Found swapped cables
        • Found bad connector on PCB
        • One problem with LV distribution: baseline shift
    • Checking other 1/2 will have to wait for real HV box/board solution
  • Using 2 chillers keeping temperature at 19 C to avoid condensation
    • Need to check temperature stability
    • Blow air on ECAL dividers
    • Will install dehumidier(s)
  • LMS: working on increasing light output -- would like to increase 10x
    • Considering whether or not we need integrating sphere
    • Inject light directly? Working on alternate solution with small aperture LEDs
  • Work to begin on infrastructure for reference PMT + radioactive source
  • DAQ: next step is to start reading out waveforms
  • Zhikun showed hit occupancy plot for FCAL-2 using simulated muon events
  • Discussed plans for beam tests using PS
    • 5x5 array lead glass + 5x5 array lead tungstate (have spares, can reuse ComCal box
    • Measure position resolution with 5x5 lead tungstate array?
  • Hakob willing to come in January to help maintain detector, maybe work on veto prototype?
