The cart has two separate hardware interlock systems and one software layer. The software layer will stop motion before the cart bumps into the low voltage interlocks connected to the Joerger SMC24B motor controller in the CAMAC crate. The SMC24B locks motion in the direction where an interlock is tripped until the error is cleared.
The AC interlock cuts power to the drive transformer and cannot be reset without someone physically going down and pushing a button. This layer is also used to disable the system to prevent anyone from moving it while people are working around the cart.
This interlock / motor power connection is wired as a appliance (it plugs into 110 VAC) and has two fuses inside the box. A one (1) amp fuse for the interlock loops and a ten (10) amp fuse for the motor transformer.
The interlock box does have exposed wiring within and requires a 3/8 wrench or socket to remove the screw on the right side that secures the front cover for access inside by a qualified individual.
