Minutes
Present:
- FSU: Sasha Ostrovidov
- JLab: Hovanes Egiyan, Mark Ito (chair), Yi Qiang, Sascha Somov, Simon Taylor, Beni Zihlmann
Status of the Prototype
- Mark needs to check on getting a crate for FSU.
- Paul has been thinking of a different geometry for the TOF, to aid mechanical construction and support. The principal change would be to go from 6 cm wide counters to 8 cm. This would allow all of the phototubes to lie on the same plane; in the 6 cm design, the μ-metal shield would cause interference if the tubes were co-planar. Space between the tubes be used for a support structure. Some implications:
- The beam hole bigger would be bigger.
- The double-hit probability would be higher.
- The rate on the inner counters might increase (or decrease).
- We would likely lose light with a wider paddle.
- Sasha O. is running Monte Carlo to study the effect.
- FSU is exploring getting equipment to use UV-curing glue, as suggested by Beni at the last meeting. They have been talking to the Detector Meisters (Brian Cross and Carl Zorn) and folks in Hall C on their experience. A system would cost a few thousand dollars.
- JLab, groups, several K$
- Brian and Carl, Hall C group
- The prototype is taking data. The data has not been analyzed completely yet. There are some mysteries that Sasha is working to understand.
- A Hamamatsu PMT was shipped to JLab from FSU. It should arrive soon.
Status of the Contract
Mark showed a wiki page listing items needed to put a construction contract into place. Beni commented on his experience working on the contract with CMU.
