Minutes
Attendees: Elliott W, Beni Z, Simon T, Ben R, Fernando B, Alex S, Lubomir P, Carl T, Vardan G, Pedro Toledo.
Hall B Discriminator
Ben described recent work on a discriminator developed for Hall B. Fernando says it fits Hall D needs perfectly, and is much cheaper and better than the CAEN V895 discriminators we were planning to use.
- 16-channel dual-threshold, non-updating, 0 -> -1V.
- Includes many scalers.
- Standard VME mount.
- Very similar to CAEN V895 but about one half the cost.
- 200 needed for CLAS12, about 200 for Hall D.
- Very low cross-talk and noise.
- Will have 5 for Hall B and 2 for Hall D fairly soon for testing.
- See Ben's slides for many more details.
JANA Remote Control
Dave described a new remote control feature for JANA processes.
- Framework for controlling monitoring and level 3 farms, also useful for control/monitoring of offline farm jobs.
- Based on cMsg (same as ROOTSpy).
- Uses very simple subject/type/text conventions for message routing and response.
- Still need to extend the JANA control language and allow for user customization.
- Should allow easy integration with DAQ system via use of a farm manager CODA component.
- JANA processes would not be CODA components, just the farm manager.
- Farm manager will probably have to be developed by Hall D as DAQ group thinks it is too experiment-specific.
- Could use AFECS to control farm processes, not clear if this would be an advantage.
- Farm processes will get events from the ET system, control is via cMsg system.
- See Dave's slides for many more details.
