Meeting time and location:

Agenda

Preparation of parts for ECAL -- Sasha

  • - long HV cables - done
  • - HV distribution boards [1][2]
- 5 (12 x 4) and 5 (6 x 8) boards have been received. Received all PCB boards. Soldering wires to connectors (one distribution board is ready, one more board will be ready during next week)
- Sent out request of quotes for HV board boxes
- Consider to build temporarry boxes for testing
  • - Two panels for the LV distribution boards received, need to re-connect cables (Sasha, Laveen, Vlad) [3]

Installation of the FCAL2 detector & integration to GlueX -- Sasha, All

  • Installation of the light distribution board of the ECAL LMS [4]
- Fine-tune the light source
  • Implementing ECAL into the GlueX DAQ [5]
- rocecal3 crate was fixed [6] (initial DAQ implementation [7])
- implementing flash ADC scalers [8]
- translation table for the ECAL (finalize/check translation DB, generate xml file, import to the CCDB) - done [9]
- implementing and verifying ECAL LMS trigger [10]
- implementing and verifying the ECAL physics trigger. First event reconstructed using the GlueX software [11]
- Installation of scintillating paddles for cosmic tests [12]
- Connecting cooling pipes to the ECAL fan (done by tech group)
- Installing dark room ceiling and insulation inside the room, required for cooling test (next week)
- Test cooling system (next week)
- Installing HV distribution boards, start switching the detector ON (waiting for HV boxes)

Students -- Sasha

  • Zhikun arrived to the lab

Restoring PS test setup [13]

ECAL commissioning -- Sasha, All

Minutes

Attendees: Bill, Sasha, Igal, Vlad, Laveen, Zisis, Ilya, Stjepan, S.T.

  • Student from Wuhan has arrived
  • HV pcbs arrived, connectors being soldered onto boards, one set ready to go
  • Still missing boxes to house these pcbs, plan to build temporary solution
  • Position of LV distribution panels lowered, need to be re-cabled
  • Need to increase light intensity for LMS
    • Prototype light input using 5 LEDs leeds to small amplitudes (~100 mV)
    • Would like to increase light intensity 10x
      • Many possible solutions considered: tune pulse width? increase number of LEDs? get rid of integrating sphere?
  • DAQ commissioning continues
    • Translation table for ECAL done, still working on translation table for lead glass
    • ECAL low-level scalers from DAQ system working, EPICS scalers still need work
    • Can read out digihits for ECAL (read out all 7 ECAL crates) -- flashADC waveforms seen!
    • Front panel LMS trigger working, progress on ECAL physics trigger (working, energy sum from signal pulses induced by the LMS)
      • However: barely enough CTP (Crate Trigger Processor) modules (no spares)
      • Plan to use new type of board for trigger: VXS Trigger Processor (VTP)
        • Have 8 VTPs to replace CTPs, installed one
        • VTPs need new firmware -- one month needed?
  • Cosmic ray setup: installed scintillator paddle below FCAL, will install one above FCAL
  • Cooling system installation/testing and dark room ceiling proceeding
  • ECAL commissioning page under development
  • Laveen continues working on close-shower separation studies -- FCAL-2 geometry -> Ilya's code
  • Physics discussion:
    • Exclusion plots need to be updated (plots from proposal don't reflect our current understanding of the backgrounds)
    • Degree of background suppression needs to be presented carefully in future talks
    • Need to come up with data analysis strategy
    • Make a list of physics channels ranked from "easy" to hard
