Time-of-Flight Prototype Work

Sasha showed plots from tests at FSU on the TOF prototype done by him and Chuck Bryant, their undergraduate student. They were using a XP2020 12-stage PMT's, a CAEN constant-fraction discriminator and an F1 TDC. They tried two different trigger counters, one 4 cm wide, the other 1 cm wide. With the narrow trigger counter they were able to achieve a resolution of about 150 ps on the time difference from the two ends of the counter.

The next step is to go on the the Hamamatsu PMT's.

Start Counter Drawings

Tim pointed us to drawings that Chuck Hutton made (PPTX) of the target region including the start counters. Two versions were shown; the latest one shows a possible geometry where less material is presented to forward going particles.
