PMT Testing

The second batch of PMTs was received at FSU. Sasha has completed the complete set of tests (at least those that have been used up until now) on batch 2. They look good: single-photoelectron peaks are visible and the measured gain agrees well with those on the Hamamatsu data sheets.

The cathode light sensitivity measurements are still being developed. Sasha has been testing stability of a UV LED and sees day-night-like variations of up to 10%. Beni suggested trying to use a reference tube to correct for variations in LED brightness. Also Mark noted that if the variation is strictly due to temperature, a direct temperature correction might be sufficient. Sasha will start with the reference tuber approach.

Testing of th tubes now goes at the rate of ten per day. There is a student working with Sasha, with testing shifts taken by each.

Sasha is working on bringing up a LeCroy 1458 mainframe system for computer control of the high voltage. Mark will try to find a manual to send to him.
