Minutes

Present:

  • FSU: Brad Cannon, Paul Eugenio, Sasha Ostrovidov, Aristeidis Tsaris
  • JLab: Mark Ito (chair), Simon Taylor, Beni Zihlmann

Run Preparation

We will likely run sometime in November.

Sasha is working now to set-up cosmic ray running. When he gets those runs going, we agreed that taking data will also have the benefit of having the detector ready for the run.

Sasha has consulted with Sergey Furletov on the set-up for stand-alone TOF runs. The current problem is lack of a working trigger. Sasha is in contact with Sascha Somov on this.

Review of minutes from August 11

We went over the minutes. Beni reported that Bryan Moffit's drivers for doing bin calibration of the CAEN TDCs have been released. We need to talk to Sergey Furletov to confirm and determine their location.

FADC charge resolution and NSB/NSA

Beni showed a plot from a study of the effect of various choices of NSB and NSA on pulse integral resolution for the TOF. For each combination of NSB/NSA, he fitted the distribution of the pulse integral for a single end of a single counter of the TOF. From the fits, he calculates the ratio of the width to the "mean" integral, basically the relative width of the minimum ionizing peak, and plots them. There is a large flat region at high NSA and low NSB where the resolution is not terribly sensitive to either parameter.

Sasha thought it would be interesting to repeat the study using the peak ADC value rather than the pulse integral.

Multi-Job Calibration

Brad has succeeded in submitted calibration jobs to the batch farm. He is currently working on combining the ROOT output of the jobs into a single file so he can run Beni's macro on it

ADC Gains

Sasha has confirmed Beni's observation that the central paddles seem to have higher than average gain. He will point us to the gain measurements done at FSU on the bench so we can cross-correlate.

Action Items

  1. Confirm installation of Bryan M.'s drivers.
  2. Get cosmic runs going.
