Minutes

Data Production

  1. Sean reported on the status of calibrations. The BCAL calibrations were redone with more statistics - one step was left off of the most recent monitoring launch, but that was soon corrected. The FCAL calibrations in the high-rate period have some oddities that are being investigated. Some final CDC and TAGM calibrations are being applied this week.
  2. Alex A. reported that the first batch of 2016 runs has been finished. He has started the second 2016 batch by request of Justin and some others. The other two batches of earlier runs will not be produced. An analysis launch of these runs is planned, please let Alex know which plugins or ReactionFilter reactions to include by Friday.
  3. The computer center shutdown scheduled for tomorrow has been rescheduled for next week, tentatively on Tuesday. The current plan is to be ready for a last monitoring launch this coming Monday, then to be ready to start production by the end of the week.

Analysis Focus: Total Cross Sections

  1. Lubomir showed some slides where he is investigating backgrounds to J/psi production. There seems to be a consistent background due to low momentum tracks (likely pions) which is not seen in Bethe-Heitler simulations. Also, in looking at the CDC dE/dx, there is a dip in the distribution around theta ~ 90 degrees.
    • Justin mentioned that some of the problems with low-momentum tracks may be improved by some recent changes to the reconstruction code.
    • Eugene pointed out that there could be a background due to charge exchange reactions. Sean confirmed that there is a substantial baryon production cross section which is not modeled in simulations.
  2. Simon and Thomas are working on comparing their results in some details.

Studies: Beamline & Triggering

  1. Justin reported on the status of flux measurements.
    • The plugin used for flux calculations was accidentally not included in the latest 2016 production, so Justin is running it over the PS skim files to have the latest flux calculations for 2016 data.
    • The flux plugin will be included in the 2017 data.
    • The plan is to store the tagged flux info in the CCDB and provide a python tool for analyzers to use it
  2. Alex Somov reported that work is underway to compare the PS energies with the energies measured in the tagger using the correct PS magnet field map.
  3. Alex Austregesilo showed the latest results on the rho analysis, using updated event selections and the latest data. From the monitoring launch, he is able to check the diamond orientation and find consistent results for the P*Sigma for each run, within uncertainities. He is also able to look at the energy dependence of the polarization transfer in 2017 data and finds some interesting behaviors. The full data will be needed to study them in detail. A first look at the latest reconstruction of the 2016 data shows that the rate of reconstructed rho's has increased by ~50%.
  4. Alex Somov reported that there has been progress on the trigger emulation in software, all of the parameters now exist in RCDB, and the software is expected to be added to sim-recon by the next trigger report in this meeting (a month from now).
